This drove legislative interest in Nebraska sportsbooks and Nebraska online casinos. A couple of attempts began, but didn’t go anywhere. More recently, Nebraska State Senator Justin Wayne (D) filed the new Games of Skill Act, LB990, into state legislature.
The proposed bill is currently under review by committee. It would legalize and regulate Nebraska online casinos and Nebraska sportsbooks. Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) and poker would also be regulated by the bill, finally legalizing Omaha poker in its birthplace.
The bill would circumvent the need to amend the constitution by defining these activities as games of skill, not chance. Stud poker games would remain classified as games of chance.
Nebraska Horse Racing
In the state of Nebraska, wagering on horse racing has been legal and regulated since 1934. At that time, the state constitution was amended, allowing for pari-mutuel horse betting. Racing must happen at legal, licensed tracks for wagers to be lawful.
In the early 20th century, Nebraska housed multiple horse racetracks and an active annual circuit. Decades of neglect saw the industry decline slowly but surely, with most tracks closing down. These days, only three race tracks remain in the state.
In Omaha, the Horsemen’s Park Race Track offers a quality flat track and dozens of races every year. They also offer simul-cast betting from multiple locations in Nebraska.
The Lincoln Race Track has a similar offering. Like all the best online casinos, it also has a mobile betting app. Finally, Fonner Park offers live thoroughbred horse races, keno games and national simul-casting.
